THE APPROACH

I have always found animals fascinating and am dedicated to studying and capturing their spirit on canvas. My style is to communicate more than simply the photo-realistic. It is to recognise and celebrate those special moments of connection with your pet – the look that you will recognise, the particular stance and the feel of their coat, all that represents the treasured relationship that you have with them.

Listening to you to get to know your pet, I work with care and precision to study every feature of the subject to inform and capture the essence of your companion. And it is so rewarding to hear from customers when I have achieved this.

My aim is that, in living with the portrait, you will always be thrilled by the depth of your distinctive work of art and the memories and feelings it evokes.

ABOUT ME

Spending 4 years in Cornwall, I studied graphics and illustration. I worked initially as an Illustrator and then as a Motion Graphics Designer. Although working professionally with a range of digital design software, I have never lost my love for the drawing board.

Inspired by painting our late family dog, Taya, and subsequently asked to do portrait commissions for friends and family, I am now committing myself full time to animal portraiture.

THE PROCESS

From a selection of high resolution photographs, I will work with you to agree the image that most captures the subject and that will translate best to a portrait in oil or pencil.

I then work from the photograph and take time to compose the image and lay out the illustration before moving on to work in the colour and texture.

At each key stage I will send you a visual for your approval.

Having moved from London, I now work in a bespoke studio (shared by Nala our labrador) in rural Dorset.
